The Carpathian Mountains are one of the wildest parts of Eastern Europe and they are home to one of the largest undisturbed forests in Europe. Above all, the biggest forest area from Romania is Suceava county. Certainly, Romania’s Carpathians offer some of the finest walkings in Europe. There are well waymarked paths, good maps and a good network of mountain cabins. Certainly, for many tourists who enjoy active travel, hiking in the Carpathian Mountains is one of the most refreshing experiences they can enjoy when they travel to Romania.
Rarău-Giumalău Mountains represent a massif situated between Moldova and Bistriţa Valleys. Their maximum height is of 1857 meters, and it is reached by the Giumalău peak. Rarau massif covers alpine grasslands, and here can be found the stones called “Pietrele Doamnei”, which are a natural monument.
From the main road will take a secondary road to reach the Alpin Hotel. Most importantly, panoramic views start immediately how we heading to the Alpin Hotel. For almost everyone is an easy tour or trek. Is not suitable for disabled people.

The wooded hills and Rarau peak, here in Bucovina, are a light tower for hikers, cyclists, and skiers in summer and fall seasons. Certainly, this ‘forgotten corner’ has been able to preserve its mesmerizing aspect better than other parts of the country. Many travelers want to visit Rarau peak and the stones called “Pietrele Doamnei” because a legend says, here is the epicenter of an energetic field of Mother Gaia.
Along the way, we’ll meet locals who still live a traditional lifestyle. Tourists can learn about the region’s rich folklore and history. In addition, you can admire stunning mountain scenery and, with a bit of luck, see traces of the local wildlife, not only caws and sheep.
This tour is designed for you to show the gorgeous scenery of Eastern Carpathian, without too much effort. We’ll arrive near the Alpin Hotel and from there we start an easy trek to Meteo Cabin.
We’ll meet at 7.30 a.m. at your hotel for a short technical “meeting. Then we’ll travel to Campulung Moldovenesc to reach Alpin Hotel, our Basecamp at Rarau Mountain.
After we park the car, we can drink tea on the terrace of the Hotel where we discuss itinerary and after that, we start out walk, trek to Meteo Cabin. A short walk along shady forest paths brings you to the PIetrele Doamnei peaks. We’ll take photos, try to discover different shapes of stone. Deep in a forested valley, contemplate the Rarau Monastery. At the end of the plateau, you could see Vama and Chiril villages. We return for lunch at the Hotel. After lunch, we can visit Rarau Monastery. We depart to Suceava to your accommodation.
