This genealogy tour is intended to help you discover your Bucuvinean roots. Have you ever dreamt of being in the places where your ancestors grew up? Those places are full of memories of your grandparents, unique recipes, special dialects, and memorable sceneries that are at the reach of your hand, just by traveling to your roots.
It should be noted that 11 ethnic groups who practiced 9 religious beliefs lived in historical Bucovina over time. That is why Bucovina constituted a true oasis of civilized political life compared to the surrounding regions. Both during the Austrian and Romanian administrations, the ethnic groups of Bucovina manifested themselves peacefully and harmoniously. Among those who emigrated were the sons of orthodox parents who during the epoch of the Enlightenment (Haskala) felt the need to escape the narrow framework of their lives and seek their luck in the wide world. During the catastrophic years from 1933 to 1944, there were many from Bucovina who found refuge abroad. According to the Jewish Agency in 1949, 118,939 Romanian Jews had emigrated to Israel since World war II ended.
Your accommodation
Depend on your arrival. Usually at 09.00 a.m.
First of all, I will need some information about your ancestors: when they left Romania, what did they do here, where did they live? But even with a few basic pieces of information, I can plan a tour. Maybe this will be an emotional tour, as with a little luck we can find the same places where your parents, grandparents lived or worked. If you have old photos which you scan I will try to find the specific spots. You will learn about the history, I can suggest places where you can taste our country’s specialties.
If you tell me what are you really interested in, I can include any places in our plan. Don’t forget, all tours are different, there isn’t a typical route: it’s all about you and your family’s history. Contact me well in advance, and I will have more chances to find information.
